Castles in the Air
Plot:
The
Saionji Kingdom is a place of peace and
prosperity. The Present King of this peaceful country, King Hosho Saionji,
plans of retiring and enthroning his only son, Kanata Saionji, on the young
prince’s seventeenth birthday. But everything comes with a price. For the
Prince to become king, he had to get himself a Queen.
But
in Kanata’s case, they had already
decided on a Queen for him. His late mother, Hitomi Hosho Saionji had, as her
last wish, asked her friend, Miki Kouzuki for her daughter’s hand in marriage
to her son. Miki and her husband, Yuu Kouzuki had easily relented.
Nearly
fifteen years had passed since the old folks had made the promise to Hitomi.
Now, Kanata was turning seventeen and he was to get
married to a girl he never knew, Miki and Yuu Kouzuki’s daughter—Miyu Kouzuki.
The
two teenagers had led different lives and when it came to coincide, the entire
scenario crashed. Miyu, who had dreamed of becoming a Minister at the Kingdom,
had to give up her dream just so that other girls can.
But
at the night of their wedding, the Prince comes up with a plan to bring down
their wedding. He suggests a pact that’ll make it impossible for Miyu to be
both the Queen and a Minister. Miyu easily agrees.
The
Pact can be effective only after a year during which Miyu becomes an intern at
the Internal Affairs Ministry and Kanata tries to be a good King to
the people of his Kingdom. His father leaves to India for preaching Buddhism
leaving the young couple alone at the Kingdom with Kanata’s guardians—Mikan Yamamura
and Tezuka Kunimitsu—the former being the Minister of Art and Literature and
the latter the Internal Affairs Minister.
The
story focuses on the young couples’ journey together. Whether they go by their
pact and separate after a year or they proceed with their wedding and make it a
marriage is the outline of the story “Castles
